K5 Learning: Review & Alternatives

Back in 2011, K5 Learning was founded. This website focuses on workbooks and worksheets for children ranging from kindergarten age, all the way through to 5th grade.

K5 Learning Review & Alternatives

The website offers free worksheets, but the workbooks do come at a cost.

We decided it was about time that we dove down deep into K5 Learning to show you what the platform can offer you.

However, we also want to find out if there are any alternatives, and if they are going to be better for your teaching needs!

So, stick around to see what we found!

Top Features Of K5 Learning

K5 Learning is a website that offers English, Math, and Science worksheets and workbooks. However, you can only get them for English and Math for some reason.

These workbooks also come with flashcards and a free e-book as well, titled ‘How To Help Your Kids Succeed In School’. This ebook provides tips, and tools, as well as learning activity tips for parents of kids from ages 4 to 11.

Despite the additional content available, the website seems to have the primary selling points around its Math and English worksheets.

So, we will focus on these and look into them first.

Mathematics Worksheets

Math worksheets are free to be able to download, and each worksheet will have the ‘key’ written on the 2nd page.

K5 Learning is split into several different grades for Math, yet still, they separate them into topics, as you can see via the following sections:

  • Advanced Math.
  • Four Operations.
  • Fractions & Decimals.
  • Measurement.
  • Numbers.

Despite it being for primarily, K-5 students, you will also find the grade 6 worksheet too, which will cover additional topics such as integers, exponents, and proportions.

Worksheets For English

With the English worksheets, there are so many. You could find many of these worksheets, each dedicated to different ELA elements, from reading, spelling, and grammar.

The reading comprehension is the most prominent, standing out with literally hundreds of worksheets that are stories for the children to read out.

The stories it contains include various age-adapted tales, tailored to a variety of reading abilities. They also contain small, short quizzes about the information from the story as well.

All of these worksheets are free to use.

Learning Pricing For K5

Learning Pricing For K5

K5 Learning has only 2 types of pricing. You can have a membership or just the pricing for the workbooks.

Although all of the worksheets are free, you could sign up, paying $23.95 for a membership per year. It does sound a bit of a waste, however, members do get some benefits, such as the following:

  • Access to ‘members-only’ worksheets.
  • Direct sharing of worksheets to Google Classroom.
  • No adverts.
  • Product previews.

That being said, there is no free trial for this, and you only get 7 days to be able to cancel your membership if you want to have a refund. Therefore, while the benefits are good, it is a bit risky too.

Very different from the worksheets membership, K5 Learning will charge for the workbooks on a pay-by-product basis.

This is true whether you are a member or not. Prices can range for the workbooks from under $2 to above $60!

What Is Teach Simple & How Does It Tie Into K5 Learning?

There is an alternative to K5 Learning, however, and that is Teach Simple. Some people seem to find Teach Simple better, and there is a good reason for this.

Worksheets are very important for education, however, they are not enough. Teachers have to have other types of learning materials, which K5 learning just does not have. You can find these other resources at Teach Simple.

Some of these materials include:

  • Audiobooks.
  • Curriculums.
  • Ebooks.
  • Flashcards.
  • Games.
  • Graphics.
  • Lesson Plans.
  • Projects.
  • Worksheets.

There is an entire library available with Teach Simple which covers all grades from very early learning, or even preschool, all the way through to high school level.

The platform also comes with a subscription model, and all you need to do is sign up through Teach Simple.

You can gain unlimited access to all of the products that are available on the platform as well, without any need to pay extra fees.

Websites such as K5 Learning will typically charge you per item, such as their workbooks, which forces you to buy the product based on only a brief preview.

This means that you could end up wasting $100 or more on materials that will not even be used.

Subscription models save you from this problem.

How Teach Simple Works

Teach Simple is different from K5 in several ways, however, it is also a source of materials that are made for teachers, made by teachers.

Some contributors are experienced teachers only. They are those who know how it feels to walk into a classroom full of kids who are just not interested and make them interested.

All products available via Teach Simple are reviewed by teachers to make sure that they are of the highest quality, meeting governmental standards.

How Teach Simple works is very straightforward, and therefore, once you have created an account, you can continue to download whatever you need that may catch your eye.

Teach Simple is also preferable to K5 Learning because it also offers a 30-day free trial, and allows you to subscribe for free! In this period, you can also make unlimited downloads free of charge.

Our Thoughts

K5 Learning offers free worksheets, and they also offer paid math and English workbooks. The worksheets for math and English are what make the site, with its reading comprehension sheets deserving of a special mention.

They do focus on K-% grades, and you can even find some sheets for 6th graders. While their worksheets are free, you do need a membership to be able to access some of these.

Workbooks do have their pricing though, and they can be expensive, no matter if you are a member or not.

K5 does, however, fail in providing materials for students that are younger than kindergarten, and older than elementary age. They also only have workbooks and worksheets, so they are a bit restricted.

To Conclude

K5 Learning is a great resource for worksheets, however, for any additional learning materials, or anything for ages younger than kindergarten, or older than elementary you may want to look elsewhere.

There are other options such as Teach Simple, Twinkl, Learning Resources, Amazon Ignite, Scholastic Teachtables, and even more.

Choose the right learning resource for you. K5 Learning is good, however, they only really cover Math and English, although they do have some Science content too. Therefore, if you want other subjects, you need to look elsewhere.
