Is Udemy Good?

Many of us want to learn a new skill at least once in our lives, when we want to try something new we generally go to a school, but Udemy gives us a chance to learn from others. Udemy works by linking learners and instructors together, so all benefit.

Is Udemy Good

Today we are going to discuss how good Udemy is and give you the information that you need, such as the costs and the pros and cons. We want to help you figure out if Udemy is for you.

What Is Udemy?

Udemy is an online learning platform that offers courses that can range from HTML to dog grooming, playing the guitar, or crafting! There is something for everyone!

It was founded in 2007, and now it has grown to become one of the biggest online learning platforms there are, offering over 130,000 courses.

It is international, available in over 60 languages, and has learners in more than 190 countries.

What makes it unique from other online learning platforms is that it supports learners’ and instructors’ quality. Instructors can create an entire course, and provide them online, after quality checks, to allow people to share knowledge and skills.

Not only can you partake in these courses, but you also get feedback, and you can usually also provide samples of your skills as well.

Recently, Udemy also branched out to help to cater large organizations and businesses, allowing independent instructors to provide courses to whole companies to aid in the development of team skills.

How Much Does Udemy Cost?

Udemy’s courses are priced individually, and they can vary a great deal, however, they are all usually around the $200 mark. Udemy also has coupons, offers, and deals available to help you minimize the cost of taking a course.

These deals will be found on their website, Twitter feed, and Facebook page. Instructors also offer discount codes for specific courses as well.

Therefore, if you see one you like, you may as well have a look at the instructor’s site to see if they have a code on there for a discount.

These codes can bring down costs by $100 and sometimes, more, so it is always good to keep an eye out for them!

Udemy Pros & Cons

Udemy does sound great. However, nothing is all swings and roundabouts, and at the end of the day, there are some downsides to this otherwise awesome platform.

Let’s take a moment to consider the good sides and the bad sides of Udemy.

Is Udemy Good

Pros

  • Udemy provides a wide range of courses, from leadership and coding, all the way to yoga, and knitting.
  • You can find unique courses made by industry experts.
  • You can learn on the go.
  • There are some fantastic discount codes available.
  • It is the ideal solution for business training.
  • You get lifetime access to the courses.
  • It is a great way for people to share their knowledge.
  • Udemy provides you with the ability to engage with instructors as well as learn from them!

Cons

  • Udemy’s courses are not accredited by institutions, so these courses are not college or university standard, and won’t gain you a legitimate crested qualification.
  • These courses are also not viable to be used for university credit.

What Are People Saying?

Udemy has a section of their site that shared customer reviews, giving a brilliant insight into what users think of their learning experience and the platform, and can tell you how the course they took benefited them.

Individual courses also have score ratings as well, so you can select the best-rated course within your niche.

That being said, if you look at Trustpilot, the most trusted online review site, this site only has a TrustScore of 2.8, with many of the reviews being mixed and many being specific to individual courses and instructors.

Overall, reviews based on the platform, itself are positive, with around 69% of Trustpilot reviews being 5 stars. However, there are some comments about the pricing structure, and its being very volatile between courses.

With mixed reviews based on individual courses, pricing, and the platform as a whole, all of this is reflected in the Trustpilot review score.

It Is Worth It?

Udemy is not a bad option for a learning platform if you desire to learn new skills. It is a great place for people to learn, and broaden their minds. It has affordable pricing and a vast selection of classes in endless niches.

With Udemy, it is possible to learn a lot for very little, however, we do recommend that you check out the review ratings on the individual courses before you take them, this can simply help to ensure that you choose the one that is best for you, and you get your money’s worth.

If you wanted to share some of your skills and knowledge, you can also use Udemy to write a course of your own! So, do not hesitate to give that a try as well if you wish!

Overall: Is It Good?

Udemy is not for everyone, simply because the courses are not accredited. However, this does not ruin it for everyone. The courses that Udemy offers are not for professionals, or to aid in college learning, necessarily.

Udemy is there to help you learn new skills, or try out new topics to help you learn more even once you have left education.

Perhaps you are considering a different career! In this case, Udemy would be a great space to learn more and find out if that career is right for you. You can try out topics, and learn new hobbies, and skills.

You can do so much more with Udemy. So, while you can’t use it for university or college, and even though it won’t add credibility to your resume, it is still good, just not in every situation!
